Compress images to 20 KB

Pick any target below — 20 KB is preselected. Files are compressed entirely in your browser; they are never uploaded to a server. Every result is measured from the real output file, and if a target can’t be met you’ll see the smallest achievable size, not a false promise.

How 20 KB works in practice

20 KB suits exam forms, small thumbnails and lightweight avatars. How we reach it differs by image: photos give up pixel detail through quality; dense screenshots and logos sometimes need a resolution step. When 20 KB truly isn’t reachable while the image stays readable, the tool says so and hands you the smallest workable file instead of pretending.

Drop as many files as you need — up to 24 per batch — and download results one at a time or as a single ZIP with collision-safe names. To run a different cap on the same files, switch presets without re-uploading, or use the sibling targets below.

20 KB questions, answered honestly

What is a 20 KB image good for?

Hard-capped uploads: scanned signatures on application forms (many portals insist on 20 KB or less), tiny avatars, chat-friendly thumbnails and compact listing icons. At this size the goal is “readable”, not “printable” — and readable is exactly what these caps need.

How does an image survive 20 KB?

The engine runs a measured search: quality re-encoding first, then a resolution step if the bytes still exceed the cap. A portrait or signature loses invisible detail first; a dense screenshot or logo may spend its budget better with a small dimension step. The result card names which lever was used.

Why does my signature scan keep missing 20 KB?

Usually the source is working against you. Grey speckle on a low-contrast scan is expensive — clean white paper with a firm black pen stroke compresses far smaller. Re-scan in daylight or scan at moderate resolution, crop tight to the ink, and if it still cannot reach the cap the tool will say so honestly.

Will compressing to 20 KB change my image format?

Only where it is explicitly chosen. JPGs stay JPGs. A PNG may be offered as an alpha-preserving WebP, or — only if you click the labelled option — flattened to JPEG. Whatever format the output is, the result card states it alongside the measured size.

Can you really compress an image to 20 KB?

For many files, yes: the search re-encodes at a lower quality and, if that is not enough, at a smaller resolution, then measures the result. If 20 KB cannot be reached while the image stays readable, you get the smallest file that was achieved plus the reason.

What happens if my image is already smaller than 20 KB?

You get an “already under target” result and the original file back untouched. Re-encoding a small file would only make it bigger, so the tool leaves it alone.

Is 20 KB enough for an exam-form photo or signature?

Often, yes: 20–50 KB is the common band for scanned signatures and small profile photos on application portals. Check the pixel dimensions the portal asks for as well, and check the result at 100% zoom before you submit it.
